On 07/18/2024, William T. McCabe, 70, a retired lieutenant of the New York City Police Department, died in Wading River, New York. McCabe retired from the NYPD in 2016 from the Confidential Data Unit and was recognized as a 9/11 responder. Police said he developed a fatal illness related to exposure during rescue and recovery efforts after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and his death is attributed to those conditions. Weapon status was not applicable and no weapon was involved in his death. There is no body camera or dash camera footage applicable to this non-incident death.
