On 04/29/2024, Deputy United States Marshal Thomas M. Weeks Jr., age 48, died in the line of duty in Charlotte, North Carolina when a suspect opened fire while he and members of the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force were serving an arrest warrant. Weeks was a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals Service and previously served eight years with U.S. Customs and Border Protection before joining the Marshals Service, and he is remembered at a memorial service in May 2024.
