OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/28/2024, Master-at-Arms Third Class Lyndon Joel Cosgriff-Flax, age 22, died during a training and area familiarization exercise on the York River while assigned to the Security Department at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. Reports indicate he fell overboard during an exercise involving a harbor security boat and died of injuries sustained. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 2021 and was stationed at Yorktown since February 2022. The incident led to charges against another sailor for dereliction of duty in relation to the event.
