On 04/26/2024, retired Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Captain John M. Collins died in The Villages, Florida after a 37-month battle with cancer attributed to his rescue and recovery work at the World Trade Center following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Collins began his law enforcement career entering the Port Authority Police Academy in October 1984, served 32 years and retired as Captain in January 2008. He later served as Police Chief at The College of New Jersey for nine years.
