On 09/21/2023, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Marylin Anjanette Mayo, age 42, died in Covington, Louisiana from long-term complications of injuries she suffered on 06/13/2007 when a large tree fell onto the patrol car she was riding in during a funeral procession for a fellow deputy, causing paralysis and subsequent medical disability that ultimately led to her death. Deputy Mayo began her law enforcement service as a dispatcher in October 2005 before becoming a deputy and remained engaged in law enforcement efforts after her injury, with memorials and department records recognizing her sacrifice.
