On 08/14/2023, Patrolman James M. “Jim” Sides, age 68, died in Alamogordo, New Mexico from long-term complications of gunshot wounds he received in the line of duty on 04/03/1984 while responding to a trespassing call as a patrolman with the Alamogordo Police Department. During the 1984 incident, he and fellow officers were fired upon, and Sides was shot in the head; after surgery and decades of disability, he succumbed to his injuries. Sides previously served with the New Mexico State Police and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office before joining Alamogordo PD.
