OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/08/2024, Deputy Matthew Hare of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant at a residence in the 200 block of McAlister Road in Easley. During the warrant service, a man inside the residence fired multiple rounds, striking Deputy Hare. Deputies returned fire and killed the gunman. Hare was transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. He had served with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office since 2018 and previously worked as a detention deputy. He is survived by his wife and children.
