Boise Officer Tobin Bolter made a traffic stop and as he walked up to the vehicle, the driver shot and killed him. The driver fled. As police chased him, a crash occurred, injuring another deputy. Police located the shooter, an unidentified 65-year-old male, and shot and killed him.

Deputy Sheriff Alfredo "Freddy" Flores passed away on April 20, 2024, after succumbing to third-degree burns from a fire at a mobile shooting range in Castaic. The fire occurred on October 10, 2023, when an equipment malfunction ignited flames in the 53-foot trailer, which was located near the Pitchess Detention Center. Seeking relief, he moved to a shaded area, but his condition worsened, leading to chest pain and loss of consciousness. Colleagues initiated CPR, and he was transported to Cleveland Area Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On 04/16/2024, Hendricks County Sheriff’s Deputy Fred Anthony Fislar died after he came into contact with live power lines while responding to a single-vehicle crash on State Road 267 and County Road 300 North near Plainfield, Indiana. Fislar was transported to a hospital where he later died. He served with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office since December 2021 and was a former United States Marine. Jensen was among the officers responding to a residence after a vehicle fled a traffic stop and was traced to the location. As they approached, Christopher R. Murphy opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle. Jensen was struck and later pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital. The suspect was also killed by returning gunfire.

On April 14, 2024, Lieutenant Michael Hoosock, 37, of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, was killed during an ambush in Salina, New York. Hoosock and other law enforcement officers were attempting to locate a suspect who had fled from a traffic stop. When they approached the suspect’s residence on Darien Drive, 33-year-old Christopher R. Murphy opened fire with a rifle. Hoosock was struck by gunfire and later died at Upstate University Hospital. The suspect was killed at the scene.

Officer Brent Hall died while working on a moonlighting job and running after juveniles entering an establishment. Officer Hall had been charged and tried for rape and sodomy for a 2020 rape of an intoxicated woman he met on duty when he returned to her house after the police call and raped her. The case resulted in a mistrial and he left Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office, his employer of the rape incident, and was employed until his death as a police officer for the Pioneer Village PD.
