OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/21/2023, Correctional Officer J Miller of the Washington State Department of Corrections was supervising incarcerated individuals at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen when an incarcerated person assaulted him. The assault caused severe head injuries. Miller was transported to Harbor Regional Health and later transferred for advanced care, where he died from his injuries. The department confirmed the assault and initiated a criminal investigation. Miller had served with the Washington State Department of Corrections for several years prior to his death. He is survived by his family as reflected in official memorial records.
