OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/06/2023, Officer Lawrence Christopher Prather of the Cairo Police Department responded to a disturbance call in the 200 block of 8th Street in Cairo. During the response, a man inside the residence fired multiple rounds, striking Officer Prather. Officers returned fire and killed the gunman. Prather was transported to a regional medical facility where he died from his injuries. He had served with the Cairo Police Department for several years and previously worked in patrol assignments. He is survived by his family as reflected in official memorial records.
