On 12/26/2022, former New York City Police Department Police Officer Randy Van Name died from illness attributed to his rescue and recovery work at the World Trade Center following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Van Name served with the NYPD and responded to Ground Zero during prolonged recovery operations, where officers were exposed to toxic dust and debris. He later retired from the department and relocated to Florida. His death was officially recognized as job related and connected to 9/11 exposure.
