On 03/01/2022, Lieutenant Scott Brandon Owens of the Union City Police Department died from complications related to COVID-19 that he contracted while performing his duties. Owens had been hospitalized with COVID-19 since early January after contracting the virus in the line of duty. He was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Union City Police Department for several years, previously also serving with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office. His death was announced by the department and covered by local media.
