On 05/18/2022, Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Officer Jade Drennan died from complications of COVID 19 that authorities determined she contracted while performing her official duties at the Murray Unit in Gatesville, Texas. Drennan served in the Correctional Institutions Division and her death was recognized as a line of duty death resulting from occupational exposure during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Chief Deputy Jody Cash was shot and killed in front of the Marshall County Sheriff's Office at 52 Judicial Drive in Benton at 2:10 pm. When a man under arrest pulled a gun and shot him. Two other officers killed the attacker.

An Alabama inmate named Casey White was helped to flee by a correctional officer named Vicky White (no relation). They were on the run together for a week when US Marshals in Evansville, IL found them and ran their vehicle into them deliberately. Vicky White committed suicide under police duress while Casey White was arrested and transported to prison again.

On 05/09/2022, Warrington Township Police Officer Stephen Charles Plum Jr. was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Route 611 in Warrington Township, Pennsylvania. Authorities reported that during the stop, a man opened fire, striking Plum. Responding officers located him with critical injuries and transported him for medical treatment, where he later died. Plum was 29 years old at the time of his death.

Edward Wilkins was a popular social media figure and dog walker for the dog business of a local cop’s wife. When the 35-year-old wife began an affair with Wilkins and her cop veteran husband found out, he tracked the pair to a hotel and when they emerged for lunch, he fired 16 bullets into Wilkins, killing him. He then reloaded and committed suicide.

On 05/05/2022, Corporal Nicholas W Tullier of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office died from complications related to injuries he sustained during an ambush attack on law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on 07/17/2016. During that attack three officers were killed and Tullier was shot multiple times; he continued treatment and care for nearly six years following the incident.

On 04/28/2022, Corporal David P Jones of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office suffered a fatal heart attack after completing his shift during which he conducted traffic enforcement and responded to an assault call in Benton County, Missouri. He died shortly after returning home from duty.

Police Officer Drew Barr responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Rossmore Drive at about 2:45 am. and encountered Austin Henderson in the front yard who shot and killed Officer Barr. Henderson then locked himself inside of the home until committing suicide seven hours later.

On 03/29/2022, Special Deputy Sheriff Douglas Warren Sanford, age 48, of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department died after complications from COVID-19. Indiana Law Enforcement Memorial reporting stated he became infected while assigned to the Animal Control Division, was hospitalized, and remained hospitalized until he died. Local reporting described him as the department’s Humane Law Enforcement Officer and said he had been hospitalized with COVID-19 since early December 2021. He had served with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office since 2015 and worked in animal control and humane law enforcement.
