On 02/25/2022, Police Officer Jorge David Alvarado Jr of the Salinas Police Department was shot and killed during a traffic stop near East Market Street and Griffin Street in Salinas, California. During the stop, the driver exited the vehicle and opened fire on Officer Alvarado while he was seated in his patrol vehicle. Officer Alvarado was struck and later died from his injuries. He had approximately five years of law enforcement service, including prior service with the Colma Police Department, and was a United States Army veteran.
