On 11/18/2021, Independence County Deputy Frank Ramirez Jr. was killed in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 14 around 12:50 a.m. while responding to a call for assistance during rainy conditions. His patrol vehicle left the roadway on a curve and became airborne. He had served with the sheriff’s office about five months and previously worked with the Batesville Police Department and U.S. Border Patrol.
