On 12/22/2021, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Mia Danielle Figueroa-Goodwin was killed when a tractor-trailer struck her patrol car on Interstate 85 South near W.T. Harris Boulevard while she was assisting at the site of an earlier crash. Officers were working a separate collision around 3:40 a.m. when two tractor-trailers collided and struck multiple CMPD vehicles, killing Goodwin and injuring other officers. She was a six-year CMPD officer assigned to the University City Division, had returned to duty days earlier after maternity leave, and left behind her husband and three young children.

On 12/22/2021, Officer Reuben Jean Warren Jr. died from complications after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty while serving with the California Highway Patrol. On 12/18/2021, Louisville Metro Police Officer Zachary Dale Cottongim was struck by a passing vehicle while standing outside his cruiser investigating an abandoned vehicle on Interstate 64 West near the Mellwood Avenue exit. He was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, underwent surgery for hours, and later died from his injuries. Cottongim was a seven-year veteran of the department, worked primarily in the First Division, and was survived by his wife and two young children.

On 11/14/2021, Police Officer James R. Svec Jr. fell ill while on duty with the Chicago Police Department and was placed on medical status after developing flu-like symptoms and later testing positive for COVID-19. His condition worsened and he was admitted to Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital at 12251 South 80th Avenue in Palos Heights with bilateral COVID pneumonia, where he remained until his death on 12/08/2021. On 11/30/2021, Clayton County Police Officer Henry Nicholas Laxson was shot and killed while responding with other officers to a domestic violence and shooting call in the 3600 block of Jervis Court in Rex. Officers first encountered a 12-year-old boy who had been shot in the face and led them to the home. As officers approached, a man opened fire from inside and retreated; Laxson and other tactical officers later encountered him behind the home, where he opened fire again, fatally wounding Laxson and injuring another officer before officers returned fire and killed him.
