On 04/09/2026, Tulare County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to a home near Newcomb Avenue and Grand Avenue in Porterville to serve an eviction notice. Randy Hoppert was part of the entry team. David Morales opened fire, striking Hoppert. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. The incident led to a prolonged standoff that ended later that day when Morales was killed by deputies.
