OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/08/2026, Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Vernon Brake was driving northbound on Interstate 35 in Oklahoma City when a southbound vehicle crossed the center barrier and entered oncoming traffic. The vehicle struck Brake’s patrol unit. He died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle and a child passenger were also killed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the vehicle crossing the barrier.
