On 05/14/2026, law enforcement officers responded to 410 North Osborne Avenue in Gillette after reports involving former Gillette Police Department Corporal Thomas Prather. A standoff developed and continued overnight. Authorities later found Prather dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Officials stated no officers fired their weapons during the incident. Prather had previously served with the Gillette Police Department until leaving the agency on 01/21/2026. The investigation remains ongoing.
