On 06/28/2026, Officer Trevor Howard of the Marked Tree Police Department was killed in a vehicle crash while on duty. Officer Howard was a passenger in a patrol truck driven by another officer traveling east on Nathan Street. According to the Arkansas State Police, a northbound Mercury Grand Marquis failed to stop at the stop sign at Broadway Street and struck the patrol vehicle on the passenger side, causing it to overturn. Officer Howard died from his injuries at the scene. The other officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries. Officer Howard had joined the Marked Tree Police Department as a full-time officer in May 2026.
