On 04/25/2026, Police Officer John G. Bartholomew of the Chicago Police Department was shot and killed while guarding an armed robbery suspect at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital. Officer Bartholomew and his partner had transported the suspect to the hospital after the man complained of difficulty breathing following his arrest. While being prepared for an MRI, the suspect produced a concealed handgun and opened fire, fatally shooting Officer Bartholomew and critically wounding his partner.
