OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/04/2026, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officer Austin Abdelnabi was killed while responding to reports of an armed man walking near East Tropicana Avenue and Mountain Vista Street. Shortly before 4:00 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported that the man was carrying a handgun and behaving erratically. Officers, assisted by the department's drone program, located the man and attempted to make contact.
Gunfire erupted during the encounter, and Officer Abdelnabi was struck. Fellow officers and medical personnel provided emergency treatment before transporting him to University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. The armed man was also killed during the exchange of gunfire. Authorities have not released the man's identity or a detailed timeline of the shooting, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Force Investigation Team continues to investigate the incident.
Officer Abdelnabi had served with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since 2023 after previously serving in the United States Marine Corps.
