Memphis PD approached a vehicle they declared as “suspicious” and engaged in a shootout with the teenage occupants. One unnamed 18-year-old male and one officer, Joseph McKinney of Memphis PD, were killed and 3 others were hospitalized while 3 officers were injured, 2 of whom remain hospitalized and one 17-year-old passenger is hospitalized in unknown condition. The coroner later revealed that Officer Joseph McKinney was killed by “friendly fire” from another officer, not the teenager they had targeted.
