Event : Former officer commits murder, then suicide
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Retired Cook County probation officer Cathleen Lee, 65, opened fire on her former daughter-in-law Marissa Galloway, 45, killing her as Galloway was securing an infant stroller in a car. There had been a fight between them over custody of the child. Lee then died by suicide using the same gun. The murder-suicide was witnessed by the child.
This was not an on-duty shooting and Officer Lee was retired from law enforcement. This case as well as all others involving deaths of police officers is not counted in the numerical death toll count on this website. While not including them in the count, we do list all cases of violent or suspicious deaths involving police officers in this section.
