On 11/21/2025, deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and a locksmith responded to a home in the Bermuda Club community to serve an eviction notice requested by the suspect’s mother. On October 17, 2025, Sgt. Thomas Duran, a 14-year veteran of the El Reno Police Department, stopped to assist a pedestrian on Watts Road near Wilson Avenue. According to investigators, a vehicle left the road and struck him. He was hospitalized and later died on October 24, 2025, from his injuries.

Officer Lauren Craven, age 25, with the La Mesa Police Department since February 2024, was returning to the city from the San Diego Central Jail when she encountered a rollover accident on I-8 eastbound. She stopped to assist and begin a report. While positioned at the scene, she was struck by another vehicle and pronounced dead along with the driver of the original crash. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
