On 08/22/2025, at approximately 12:45 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence in the Valle Vista area of unincorporated Hemet, California. They found U.S. Border Patrol agent Isaiah Anthony Hodgson, 29, deceased inside the home. No foul play was suspected, and the cause of death remains undetermined pending investigation.

Hodgson was facing multiple criminal charges at the time of his death. On 07/07/2025, while off duty and reportedly intoxicated, he entered the women’s restroom at a Long Beach restaurant while carrying a firearm. When security attempted to intervene, he resisted. Responding Long Beach police officers attempted to arrest him, and Hodgson physically resisted, injuring one of the officers. The Los Angeles County District Attorney charged him with three felony counts of resisting an executive officer, one felony count of battery with injury on a peace officer, and three misdemeanor counts related to unlawfully carrying firearms in public. He pled not guilty and was released on conditions including relinquishing firearms and attending alcohol counseling. If convicted, he faced up to seven years in prison.

Hodgson’s name had also surfaced in connection with controversial Border Patrol arrests in Southern California, including an immigration sweep in Pico Rivera and other incidents that drew criticism from local communities. His actions had become the focus of public scrutiny and protest.

A GoFundMe campaign launched by his family to cover funeral expenses had raised more than $8,000 by the end of August.

On 08/17/2025, around late evening, Sgt. Lee Sorensen, 56, of the Tremonton–Garland Police Department responded to multiple 911 hang-up calls at a residence near North Park Elementary School. While speaking with a resident outside the home, a male suspect emerged and opened fire. Sgt. Sorensen was struck and killed at the scene. The suspect continued firing at arriving officers. Neighbors persuaded the suspect to surrender, and he was taken into custody.

On 08/17/2025, just before 11:00 p.m., Enid Police responded to a domestic disturbance and traced the suspect’s vehicle to INTEGRIS Health Enid Hospital. The suspect opened fire on officers outside the emergency entrance and then moved inside the hospital, firing multiple rounds. Hospital security officer J.W. Bode, 72, a retired probation and parole officer with five years of hospital service, confronted the suspect and was shot and killed. Enid Police entered the hospital, engaged the gunman, and fatally shot him. No other staff, patients, or officers were injured. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

On 08/15/2025, Maui Police Department officers responded to reports of an illegal shooting near Baldwin Avenue in Pāʻia. Trooper First Class Dennis D. On 06/16/2025, a man driving a pickup truck intentionally rammed into the motorcycle of Sergeant Caleb Eisworth on Greenwell Springs Road in Baton Rouge. Eisworth was critically injured, suffering the loss of both legs above the knee, and remained hospitalized until 08/10/2025, when he died from his injuries at age 44. On or around August 3, 2025, New Jersey State Trooper Ricardo Santos shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Lauren Semanchik, 33, and her new boyfriend, Tyler Webb, 29, inside her Franklin Township home. Santos then drove to Johnson Park in Piscataway and fatally shot himself. Anderson “Chase” Childers, a 38-year-old former Georgia police officer and minor league baseball player, drowned after entering the water at Pawleys Island to rescue a group of swimmers caught in a rip current. Deputy Mason was shot and killed. The second deputy was injured and hospitalized in stable condition. The shooter was also killed by police. On 06/30/2025, during a medical appointment at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Murphy, a federal inmate overpowered Officer Francisco Paul Flattes, took his weapon, and shot him. Officer Flattes was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officer George Feinauer was injured during the struggle but survived. The inmate fled in a stolen vehicle and was later apprehended in Macon County. The incident is under investigation.

LAPD Sergeant Matthew Paul Landry, 43, was struck and killed on the 405 Freeway near Del Amo Boulevard while off-duty. Landry and another motorist were reportedly involved in a prior collision and standing outside their vehicles when a third vehicle crashed into them. Both men died at the scene. A funeral service was held in Covina to honor Landry’s service.

On Thursday evening, June 26, 2025, Officer Kendall Corder and his partner responded to a domestic violence call near 25th Street and Garfield Avenue. As they exited their squad car, they were ambushed and shot in an alleyway. Officer Corder sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was placed on life support. He died from his injuries on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

On 06/27/2025, around 9:28 p.m., Deputy Brandon Gaede, 30, with the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a report of illegal fireworks at a residence on 1st Street in Phillipsburg, Kansas. While attempting to arrest 27-year-old Kolton Griffith, a struggle broke out. Griffith produced a concealed handgun and shot Deputy Gaede. Gaede returned fire, killing Griffith. Deputy Gaede was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

On 06/27/2025 at approximately 7:00 p.m., a Wilkes County deputy, Johnathan Andrew Laws, 34, was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima southbound on Red White and Blue Road when it was struck head-on by a northbound 2003 Jeep Liberty that crossed the center line. Laws was airlifted to a hospital but died from his injuries.

LAPD Sergeant Shiou Deng, 53, was fatally struck by a vehicle on the southbound 405 Freeway near Getty Center Drive around 2:00 a.m. He had stopped to assist with a prior two-vehicle crash and activated his emergency lights. After exiting his vehicle, he was hit by a third vehicle and later died at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. A civilian involved in the original crash also died. Authorities closed southbound lanes of the 405 for nearly 10 hours.

On Sunday morning, June 22, 2025 at approximately 5:58 a.m., off‑duty Trenton Police Officer Timothy Long was involved in a single‑vehicle crash on northbound I‑295 near mile marker 45 in Westampton Township, Burlington County. His vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a traffic sign and a tree, and caught fire. Officer Long sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Long served 25 years with the Trenton Police Department and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Flags in Trenton have been lowered in his honor, and the New Jersey State Police is investigating the crash.

On June 22, 2025, Sgt. Beverly Rodriguez, 40, of the Metro Transit Police Department, was found dead in White Bear Lake after going overboard from a pontoon boat while off duty. The incident occurred near the east side of the lake around 2:27 p.m. Emergency responders arrived on scene and recovered her body approximately 40 minutes later. She was transported to Regions Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Rodriguez served since 2017 and led the Metro Transit Homeless Action Team, where she was known for her compassionate work with the unhoused.
