On 02/03/2026 at approximately 11:34 p.m., an East Cleveland Police Department officer initiated a traffic stop near Hayden and Alder avenues. On 02/04/2026, Albuquerque Police Department officers engaged in a prolonged standoff with 51-year-old Roman Kirby along Interstate 40 near Eubank Boulevard after multiple calls about reckless driving and a man armed with a firearm. Police located Kirby outside his vehicle and attempted crisis negotiation for approximately six hours, making numerous phone contact attempts. During the standoff, officers deployed a police drone, and police said Kirby fired at the drone and pointed his firearm toward officers on multiple occasions. On 02/03/2026 around 5:00 p.m., Spencer Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence on Main Street after a 911 call reporting a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Shortly after locating that injured person, officers spotted 35-year-old Patrick Madison near West Main Street in the Big Y shopping plaza area. According to law enforcement, Madison produced a firearm and officers approached; gunfire was exchanged and Madison fled into the Family Dollar store. Officers evacuated the store and adjacent businesses, then requested the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) SWAT team to assist. SWAT members located Madison barricaded inside a bathroom at the rear of the store. Law enforcement reported Madison discharged a firearm toward officers, striking a Millbury Police Department officer who was part of the SWAT team; that officer was transported to a hospital and was reported in stable condition. Officers returned fire, striking Madison, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police detectives are investigating the use of deadly force by police.

The vehicle exited at Mountain Vista and continued onto Vine Drive/Weld County Road 84. The driver lost control, struck a utility pole, and the vehicle rolled. Two male occupants were ejected. Jose Meza, 23, of Loveland, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second man, X-avier Cruz, 19, also of Loveland, was transported to a hospital where he later died. A female occupant was extricated and taken to an area hospital with injuries. Deputies did not make contact with the vehicle before the crash, and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office CRASH Team and Forensics Unit processed the scene. The Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased.
