On 01/24/2026, Pennsylvania State Police troopers from the Bethlehem barracks responded at about 11:03 a.m. to a residence on the 2800 block of Rockdale Road in North Whitehall Township following reports of a disturbance involving a man armed with a handgun. Troopers arrived and found a 27-year-old man inside a parked Toyota Camry in the driveway holding a handgun. State Police set up a perimeter and engaged with the man, attempting to communicate with him and achieve a peaceful resolution. During those efforts, the man discharged his firearm multiple times from inside the vehicle and pointed the weapon in the direction of troopers. Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team negotiators continued to attempt contact. Around 2 p.m., the man again fired his weapon toward law enforcement officers. A Special Emergency Response Team member returned fire, striking the man. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene and then transported him to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, where he died later that evening. No troopers were injured. The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death to be a gunshot wound. The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Major Case Team, Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, and coroner are investigating the shooting.

On 01/24/2026 at approximately 10:30 a.m., an Edgewater Police Department officer observed a GMC Yukon in the area of West 24th Avenue and Pierce Street and followed the vehicle as it traveled into the city of Wheat Ridge. The Yukon was driven by a 36-year-old woman, Amber Michelle O’Neal, with Barry Michael Sullivan, 48, as a passenger. The vehicle was not immediately stopped by patrol but continued driving and later struck a Honda Pilot at West 32nd Avenue and Pierce Street before crashing into the garage of a residence. Officers arrived and began checking on the occupants of the vehicles involved. Sullivan exited the crashed SUV and produced a firearm. An Edgewater Police officer engaged Sullivan with gunfire after Sullivan fired at the officer. Sullivan was struck by gunfire. Medics transported him to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No officers were injured. The driver of the Yukon was treated for injuries at a hospital and then taken into custody on outstanding warrants, including charges related to vehicular eluding and other offenses.
