Officers gave commands and moved toward the entry. An officer fired one round into the doorway. After securing the home, police located two men who had been shot. Christian Diaz Rendon, 36, died from a gunshot wound. Another man sustained non-life-threatening gunshot injuries and was transported to a hospital. Police later confirmed that Diaz Rendon was not the original shooter. Reporting states he had confronted and disarmed the armed individual before police arrived. Phoenix Police Chief publicly acknowledged that Diaz Rendon was not the intended suspect. The department released body-worn camera footage and 911 audio in early February 2026. Diaz Rendon’s family filed a 25 million dollar notice of claim against the City of Phoenix alleging wrongful death.

On 01/25/2026 at approximately 6:24 a.m., Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting that a man and his dog had been stabbed in the parking lot of the SS Quickstop Grocery in Parkland, Washington. The caller told dispatchers that a man approached him, asked about his religion, and then stabbed him and his dog. Deputies located the injured man and provided aid until medics transported him to a hospital. The dog was also transported for veterinary care.
Deputies searched the surrounding area for several hours. At approximately 8:40 a.m., deputies located a man in the 800 block of 112th Street South who matched the description provided by the victim. Deputies moved to detain him. The man ran behind a nearby home. Deputies pursued him on foot. Deputies reported that the man had multiple knives. During the encounter, deputies fired their weapons. Deputies struck the man with gunfire. Medics transported him to a hospital, where he died.
Investigators stated that the man had knives in his possession during the encounter. The Pierce County Force Investigation Team is conducting the investigation.

On 01/25/2026, East Point police were tracking an individual wanted for armed robbery and aggravated assault in Atlanta. Officers observed the man in the parking lot of Bayard Plaza in East Point, Georgia. When officers attempted to take him into custody, the man fled on foot. He carjacked a vehicle in the parking area, forcing the occupants out of the car before driving away. Officers pursued the vehicle until he lost control and crashed into a utility pole near Gus Thornhill Jr. Drive and Harris Street. After the crash, he ran from the vehicle. Officers pursued him on foot, repeatedly giving verbal commands to stop. The man did not comply, exited into a residential area near Lyle Avenue, and produced a handgun. The man fired a single round, striking himself. Officers administered CPR until medics arrived. The man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Police recovered a handgun at the scene. As of the latest reporting, police have not released the individual’s name or other identifying details, and the conditions of the two people who were pushed from the carjacked vehicle have not been publicly disclosed.

On 01/25/2026 at approximately 5:17 p.m., Bakersfield Police Department officers located a vehicle previously reported stolen from a parking lot near the Target at Valley Plaza in Bakersfield. Police attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was traveling at high speed, and officers engaged in a pursuit. The pursuit continued onto eastbound Highway 178. For safety reasons, law enforcement terminated the pursuit once the vehicle was reaching unsafe speeds. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle collided with a guardrail and then a concrete bridge abutment on Highway 178 west of the Baker Street overpass. The collision caused the vehicle to overturn, ejecting the three juvenile occupants. Emergency responders transported all three juveniles to Kern Medical. One juvenile, identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as 14-year-old Jabranden Embry Brooks of Bakersfield, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Two other juveniles were hospitalized with injuries. The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating the incident under its critical incident policy, and the officers involved in the pursuit have been placed on routine administrative leave.

During those efforts, the man discharged his firearm multiple times from inside the vehicle and pointed the weapon in the direction of troopers. Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team negotiators continued to attempt contact. Around 2 p.m., the man again fired his weapon toward law enforcement officers. A Special Emergency Response Team member returned fire, striking the man. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene and then transported him to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, where he died later that evening. No troopers were injured. The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death to be a gunshot wound. The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Major Case Team, Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, and coroner are investigating the shooting.

On 01/24/2026 at approximately 10:30 a.m., an Edgewater Police Department officer observed a GMC Yukon in the area of West 24th Avenue and Pierce Street and followed the vehicle as it traveled into the city of Wheat Ridge. The Yukon was driven by a 36-year-old woman, Amber Michelle O’Neal, with Barry Michael Sullivan, 48, as a passenger. The vehicle was not immediately stopped by patrol but continued driving and later struck a Honda Pilot at West 32nd Avenue and Pierce Street before crashing into the garage of a residence. Officers arrived and began checking on the occupants of the vehicles involved. Sullivan exited the crashed SUV and produced a firearm. An Edgewater Police officer engaged Sullivan with gunfire after Sullivan fired at the officer. Sullivan was struck by gunfire. Medics transported him to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No officers were injured.
