Hermelindo Morete-Dista came out of the home holding a handgun. Police gave commands and then opened fire, striking him multiple times. He died from his injuries. Officers located both vehicles and when the man exited his vehicle holding a firearm and walked toward his wife’s car and a responding officer, officers fired. The man was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. No officers reported injuries. State investigators are reviewing the fatal shooting and will submit findings to the local prosecutor.

On 02/12/2026, St. Louis Metropolitan Police officers responded to a disturbance in the 430 block of South 15th Street and encountered 29-year-old Mark Smith, who was yelling and acting erratically. Officers determined he needed medical evaluation but were told no ambulances were available. Officers placed Smith in a police transport van and drove him to a hospital. During the transport, Smith struck his head against the metal partition inside the van. When officers arrived at the hospital, medical staff found Smith unconscious and critically injured which apparently happened during police transport. He remained hospitalized and died on 02/14/2026. Police opened a death investigation into the circumstances of the transport.

The motorcyclist did not yield and continued driving at speed. Officers discontinued further enforcement per department policy and later responded to a fatal collision in the 3800 block of Stockton Hill Road involving that same motorcycle and a dark-colored SUV. The motorcyclist, a 26-year-old man from Kingman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Arizona Department of Public Safety assumed responsibility for the crash investigation.
