Emergency responders and bystanders attempted to put out the fire, but both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the Infiniti was driven by 28-year-old Demitri Sousa of Seekonk, who had allegedly shot and killed a coworker earlier that night in Cranston and was driving away from that homicide when the crash occurred. Sousa survived the crash with serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. Investigators said Swansea police had been notified to watch for the vehicle connected to the Rhode Island homicide, but officers were not actively pursuing it at the moment the collision occurred. Division Street where 41-year-old Adam Stallings was found dead with stab wounds inside a motel room. Investigators allege multiple people were involved in the killing. During an early-morning operation on 02/25/2026 on West Carlisle Avenue, officers encountered Richard Sheppard after a prolonged attempt to contact him; he was moving around a property with what investigators described as a loaded 12-gauge shotgun. Officers fired their weapons after Sheppard fled over fences toward the perimeter, striking and killing him.
