On 02/19/2026, an off-duty Osceola County sheriff’s deputy working security at the Walmart located at 904 Cypress Parkway confronted three individuals suspected of shoplifting. Store loss-prevention staff notified the deputy that merchandise had been concealed. As the deputy approached, the 16-year-old boy ran through the store while allegedly holding a handgun. The deputy fired and struck him. He died from the gunshot wounds inside the store. Two additional males who were with him left the store and were later identified. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

On 02/19/2026 in Toledo, Ohio, Toledo Police responded to a report of a carjacking on Emerald Avenue. Officers were called after a bus operator witnessed a man take control of a vehicle being driven by 38-year-old Jessie Moats and drag the vehicle owner, later identified as Donald Russell, as the car left the area. Family members said Russell was dropping off his granddaughter at a bus stop before the incident.
