On 01/01/2026, Blue Springs Police officers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 70 near Adams Dairy Parkway in Blue Springs, Missouri. During the stop, a male teenager exited the vehicle and ran across lanes of traffic on the interstate. While running across I-70, he was struck by a passing vehicle. He was pronounced dead after the collision. Police have not released his identity or age and have provided limited details about the original reason for the traffic stop. The incident remains under investigation.

On 01/01/2026, Pennsylvania State Police responded after 1 p.m. to reports of a suicidal man at the 13,000 block of South Eagle Valley Road in Snyder Township, Blair County. Troopers located the man inside an outbuilding near a church. He barricaded himself inside, and state police activated specialized response units. Troopers attempted negotiations during an hours-long standoff. After communication efforts were unsuccessful, troopers entered the structure and found the man deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.

On 01/01/2026, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on Gradelle Avenue in Fairbanks after receiving reports that 24 year old William Rexford was damaging property inside a family home and making threats of self-harm. Troopers contacted Rexford inside the residence. During the encounter, Rexford went into a kitchen area and obtained a knife. Troopers discharged their firearms and shot Rexford. He was pronounced dead at the residence. Another man inside the home was also struck by trooper gunfire and transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting, and the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions will evaluate the findings upon completion of the investigation.

On 01/01/2026, an off-duty Bossier Parish Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a domestic dispute at a residence in the 100 block of Robbin Lane in Princeton, Louisiana. During the confrontation, Jonathan Len Isgitt, 55, fired a gun and struck the deputy in the ankle. The deputy discharged his weapon and shot Isgitt. He was pronounced dead after the shooting. The injured deputy was transported for medical treatment. The Louisiana State Police are investigating the incident.

On 03/01/2025, an off-duty Washington State Patrol trooper drove her personal vehicle on State Route 240 and turned left into oncoming traffic. Her vehicle struck a motorcycle operated by Jhoser Sanchez. He was transported to a hospital where he died. Investigators reported the trooper showed signs of impairment and later measured a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.

On 10/09/2024, Taylorsville police officer Jimmy Jeremy Haas followed a pickup truck connected to a vehicle that had reportedly fled from Salt Lake City police earlier in the day. Haas followed the truck into a parking lot and blocked it in with an unmarked police SUV. Police said the driver reversed and rammed Haas’s vehicle. Another officer then used a patrol vehicle to pin the truck against a building. Prosecutors said Haas shined a flashlight through the rear window and fired one shot into the truck, striking the driver. The driver fled on foot and was later found unresponsive nearby. He died from the gunshot wound. Prosecutors stated no weapons were found on the man or inside the vehicle. On 05/14/2026, Salt Lake County prosecutors charged Haas with second degree felony manslaughter, alleging the shooting violated department policy and accepted law enforcement standards.
