On 05/29/2026, members of the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit attempted to stop a 2009 Ford Fusion for traffic violations near Hudson Avenue and Avenue D in Rochester. Tyson D. Thomas continued driving and troopers escalated a pursuit through city streets. Thomas died inside the vehicle. Three occupants of the Jeep were injured, including one person who sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized in stable condition. Investigators later identified the driver as Tyson D. Thomas. State Police stated that the vehicle's license plates were registered to a different vehicle.
