On 05/09/2026, DeLand police attempted to stop Brandon Joseph Brabin after officers said he nearly struck a pedestrian in downtown DeLand while driving without headlights and running red lights. Police said Brabin continued driving west on State Road 44 and evaded responding officers for several hours. Around 4:30 a.m., deputies located Brabin’s Nissan Altima in the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market on South Woodland Boulevard. Deputies approached the vehicle and police said Brabin accelerated and attempted to drive away again. A Volusia deputy fired through the windshield, striking Brabin. The vehicle continued across the parking lot before crashing. Brabin was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sheriff Mike Chitwood later said body camera footage showed the deputy stepping in front of the vehicle before firing. Authorities said no firearm was found inside the car. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

On 05/07/2026, officers with the Lubbock Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle near 34th Street and Frankford Avenue. On 05/07/2026, agents with the Arkansas State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served a search warrant at a residence on Long Leaf Drive in Bauxite as part of an undercover child exploitation investigation. Authorities said agents entered the residence at approximately 7 a.m. while executing the warrant.

According to Arkansas State Police, agents heard a single gunshot after entering the home. An Arkansas State Police SWAT team then cleared the residence and found James Fields dead inside the home from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. The caller told dispatchers that LaPage rammed her vehicle multiple times and attempted to run her off the road during the rolling domestic disturbance. Cass County deputies and Nebraska State Patrol troopers responded to the area. Authorities said LaPage later drove off the roadway, entered a field, and crashed into an outbuilding. Deputies used a drone to examine the wrecked truck before approaching. LaPage was found dead inside the vehicle. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Authorities said Hernan Marrero drove a Jeep south in the northbound lanes of Route 1 in Lynnfield shortly after 2 a.m. Massachusetts State Police received multiple 911 calls reporting the wrong-way vehicle. Trooper Kevin Trainor and other troopers responded to intercept the Jeep. Marrero’s vehicle struck Trainor’s cruiser head on near the Saugus and Lynnfield line. Marrero died in the crash. Investigators later identified him as a 50 year old man from the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston. The Essex County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the collision.

Richardson police responded to Good Vibes Bar and Grill around 10 p.m. after receiving reports that a man with a knife was threatening people and saying he intended to kill multiple people. Police said Stephen Kwembe stabbed four people inside the business before officers arrived. Officers encountered Kwembe outside the entrance while he was still holding a knife. Police gave repeated commands for him to drop the knife. Authorities said Kwembe refused commands and moved toward officers. Two officers opened fire and killed him. Four stabbing victims were transported to hospitals with injuries. Edinburg police responded to the 2500 block of West Sprague Street after an elderly homeowner called authorities because he was upset about irrigation workers conducting maintenance near his property. Police said Steven Orth demanded that the workers leave and continued arguing with responding officers. Authorities said Orth told officers he would retrieve a firearm if the workers did not leave. South Bend police responded to the Phillips 66 gas station on Portage Avenue near Cleveland Road after a mother requested a welfare check for her 25 year old daughter who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis. Officers located Hannah Aberegg at the gas station shortly before 3:30 p.m. Police said shots were fired about two minutes later. Indiana State Police said surveillance footage showed Aberegg with a handgun before officers opened fire. She was transported to a hospital where she later died. South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski said one South Bend officer fired a weapon during the incident. Indiana State Police is leading the investigation.

On 05/06/2026, officers with the Susanville Police Department responded to a welfare check at the 300 block of Richmond Road after family members expressed concerns about three children staying with Ngirasiau "Derek" Sikong. Police said Sikong was holding a machete and acting erratically. According to investigators, Sikong held a two year old child outside a second story window before pulling the child back inside. Officers opened fire through the window and entered the residence. Police reported that Sikong struck Officer David Lee with a machete, causing a shoulder injury. Officers opened fire again and killed Sikong. Three children were removed from the residence without reported physical injuries. Officer Lee was treated at a hospital and released. The Lassen County Law Enforcement Interagency Investigation Team investigated the shooting and the Lassen County District Attorney determined the officers' actions were legally justified.
