On 01/03/2026, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop a 21 year old man from Allen, Texas, driving westbound on Interstate 44 in Phelps County. Troopers reported he did not stop and troopers chased the vehicle. Troopers reported the crash happened around 12:15 a.m. near mile marker 176 near Sugar Tree Road, where the car went off the left side of the roadway, struck a cable barrier, went airborne, and hit a bridge support pillar.
