OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 01/02/2026, a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle south of Grand Forks on Interstate 29 for erratic driving. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Titan Newton, fled from the trooper in the vehicle. The pursuit lasted approximately one mile before the vehicle became stuck in the median. After the crash, officers located Newton with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. Newton was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers discharged their firearms during the incident. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
