On 01/02/2026, a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle traveling on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks for erratic driving. Police said the driver, Titan Newton, 23, did not stop and continued driving for approximately one mile. The vehicle entered the median and became stuck. Troopers approached and located Newton inside the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities pronounced him dead at the location. Officials stated no troopers discharged their firearms. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the review of the incident.
