On 01/01/2026, Grand Chute Police Department officers responded to a disturbance involving an armed man at the Wingate by Wyndham hotel at 132 N. Mall Drive. Officers established a perimeter and attempted communication with the man inside a hotel room, resulting in a standoff that lasted several hours. After negotiations were unsuccessful, officers entered the room and found the man deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities have not released his identity or age. The Grand Chute Police Department is investigating.
