OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/05/2026, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and Knob Noster police officers responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 100 block of State Route D in Knob Noster. Officers located a 34-year-old man, later identified as Bender B. Atty of Spokane, Washington, armed with a knife. After commands to drop the weapon were not followed, a trooper deployed a Taser and took Atty into custody. Shortly afterward, Atty became unresponsive. Emergency medical services were summoned and officers initiated lifesaving measures, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the in-custody death, and the burglary investigation is being handled by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
