OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/05/2026, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and Knob Noster Police Department officers responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 100 block of State Route D in Knob Noster. Officers located 34-year-old Bender B. Atty of Spokane, Washington. Police said Atty was holding a knife during the encounter. Officers gave commands for him to drop it. A trooper deployed a Taser and officers placed Atty in custody. Shortly after being restrained, Atty became unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported him for treatment, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities reported that no officers discharged firearms. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the in-custody death. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is handling the burglary investigation.
