On 01/07/2026 just before midnight, deputies with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of Black Bayou #1 Road in Bloomington, Texas, after multiple calls involving a man reportedly armed with a handgun. As deputies arrived, the man fled in a black SUV, prompting a high-speed pursuit northbound on Highway 185 into the city limits of Victoria. During the pursuit, deputies reported that the man fired shots from the vehicle at pursuing law enforcement. The pursuit ended in a crash at the intersection of North Street and Nelson Avenue in Victoria.
Following the crash, the man engaged deputies and members of the sheriff’s SWAT team in a standoff. Deputies and SWAT repeatedly attempted to negotiate and gain compliance. According to Sheriff Justin Marr’s statement, the man pointed a firearm at deputies during the standoff, and deputies returned fire, striking him. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The Texas Rangers and the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
