On 01/09/2026, Jordan Deaton, 27, of Des Moines was killed when his vehicle crashed while driving away from a traffic stop initiated by Des Moines police. Officers attempted to stop Deaton’s vehicle near 21st Street and Atkins Street just after midnight. Deaton did not stop and continued eastbound on University Avenue. He lost control of the vehicle near East 14th Street and East University Avenue, where the vehicle struck a tree. Deaton died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
