OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/07/2026, deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop 24-year-old Dylan Savoie riding a four-wheeler on a roadway in Ville Platte. Savoie did not stop and a brief pursuit ensued. The four-wheeler became disabled in a ditch and Savoie fled on foot into a field with deputies pursuing. During the foot pursuit, deputies deployed a taser, which was ineffective. Savoie then allegedly produced a firearm and fired toward the deputies. In response, deputies discharged their service weapons and struck Savoie. He was taken into custody, given medical aid, and transported by ambulance to Rapides Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died. Louisiana State Police detectives are investigating the shooting and processing the scene.
