OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/07/2026 at approximately 2:00 p.m., deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office observed Dylan Blaze Savoie riding a four-wheeler on a public roadway in Ville Platte and attempted to stop him. Savoie did not stop, and deputies initiated a brief pursuit. The four-wheeler entered a ditch near Ivy Road, became disabled, and Savoie fled on foot into a nearby field. Deputies pursued him on foot.
During the foot pursuit, deputies deployed a taser, which did not stop him. Authorities reported that Savoie then fired a handgun toward deputies. Deputies opened fire, striking him. Deputies secured him and requested emergency medical assistance. He was transported by air ambulance to Rapides Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.
Louisiana State Police detectives from the Bureau of Investigations responded to process the location and are conducting the ongoing investigation at the request of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office. The names of the deputies who fired have not been publicly released.
