OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/05/2026, Piscataway police were dispatched to a home on River Road after a 911 call reporting a violent incident inside the residence. When officers arrived, they entered the home and discovered multiple people unresponsive inside. As officers moved through the residence, they encountered 28 year old Jordan Barnes, who was holding a knife. Police ordered Barnes to drop the weapon multiple times, but he did not comply. Officers attempted to subdue him using tasers, with three separate taser deployments reported, none of which were effective. According to authorities, Barnes continued to advance while holding the knife. An officer then discharged his firearm, striking Barnes. He was pronounced dead at the scene. After the shooting, police recovered two knives near Barnes. Three other people inside the home were found dead and later identified as Barnes’s mother and grandparents. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office are conducting investigations into both the police shooting and the deaths inside the residence.
