OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/05/2026, Piscataway Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting a violent incident inside a residence at 831 River Road. Officers entered the home and located multiple individuals unresponsive. As officers moved through the residence, they encountered 28-year-old Jordan Barnes holding a knife. Police said officers issued repeated commands for him to drop the knife and deployed Tasers three times. Authorities stated the Taser deployments were not effective. Police reported Barnes continued moving toward officers while holding the knife. An officer then discharged a firearm, striking Barnes. He was pronounced dead at the residence. Investigators reported recovering two knives near Barnes. Three other individuals inside the home were also found dead and were later identified as Barnes’s mother and grandparents. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office are conducting investigations into the police shooting and the deaths inside the residence.
