On 01/08/2026, Justin Scott Roberts, 39, died after a police pursuit that began in Opelika, Alabama and ended on Interstate 85 in LaGrange, Georgia. Opelika police responded to a reported domestic violence incident and attempted to stop Roberts, who continued driving. Police a chase. Roberts drove northbound on I 85 and crossed into Georgia, where Georgia State Patrol joined the pursuit. Law enforcement performed a PIT maneuver that stopped the vehicle near LaGrange. After the vehicle came to rest, Roberts shot himself and died at the scene. A child was inside the vehicle during the pursuit and was recovered alive.
