OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 01/01/2026, Chandler Police officers responded after Gerald Lee Philpot Jr., 41, made a 911 call stating he intended to harm his young daughter, who was inside a vehicle with him. Officers located the vehicle near McQueen Road and Chandler Boulevard and attempted to make contact. During the encounter, officers discharged their firearms and shot Philpot. He was pronounced dead after the shooting. The child was not injured and was later reunited with her mother. Police reported that a knife was recovered from the vehicle. The Mesa Police Department is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
