On January 9, 2026, at approximately 8 p.m., Cedar Hill Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired along U.S. Highway 67 in Cedar Hill after a caller reported that a person had fired at his vehicle and provided a vehicle description. Officers located the described vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway and initiated a high-risk stop. According to police, a woman exited the passenger side and was fatally shot by the male driver, identified by authorities as 29-year-old Gage Harvey. Police said the driver then exited the vehicle armed with a firearm and two officers fired their weapons, striking Harvey. Officers rendered aid to both subjects until paramedics arrived; the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and Harvey was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
