OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/10/2026, Albuquerque police responded to a reported commercial burglary in the area of Cochiti SE near a mobile home park. Officers located a vehicle and began pursuing men on foot. One man, identified by police as 40-year-old James Litteral, ran away and officers attempted to deploy a Taser unsuccessfully. At least one officer then fired at Litteral, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was taken into custody in connection with the burglary. Authorities stated the suspect had a firearm but did not fire it during the incident. The Multi-Agency Task Force is investigating the shooting.
