On January 9, 2026 at approximately 11:10 p.m., an on-duty officer of the Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department was operating a marked patrol vehicle eastbound on East Harrison Street in Mooresville when it collided with a pedestrian standing in the roadway. The pedestrian, later identified by the Morgan County Coroner as 23-year-old Nicholas Alexander Horning, sustained critical injuries. Emergency medical personnel transported Horning to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he died from those injuries on January 10, 2026.
